The Little Prince

The Little Prince has come to visit the SPS. This is a photo of the two of us last spring. The first question he asked was "When can I go see my horse?" Seems that the SPS only gets to consider me hers when her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews are not around.
Truth is that I own all the humans who meet me!

Merry Christmas

The Night Before Christmas
by Sister St. Thomas, B.N.D. de N

A more spiritual version of the famous Christmas story.

T'was the night before Christmas, and all through the town,
St. Joseph was searching, walking up roads and down;

Our Lady was waiting, so meek and so mild,
While Joseph was seeking a place for the Child.

The children were nestled, each snug in their beds,
The grown-ups wouldn't bother, "There's no room," they said;

When even the inkeeper sent them away,
Joseph was wondering, where they would stay?

He thought of the caves in the side of the hills,
"Let's go there," said Mary, "it's silent and still."

The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow,
Made pathways of light for their tired feet to go;

And there in a cave, in a cradle of hay,
Our Saviour was born on that first Christmas Day!

The Father was watching in heaven above,
He sent for His angels, His couriers of love.

More rapid than eagles God's bright angels came,
Rejoicing and eager as each heard his name;

"Come Power, Come Cherubs, Come Virtues, Come Raphael,
Come Thrones and Dominions, come Michael and Gabriel;

Now fly to the Earth, where My poor people live,
Announce the glad tiding My Son comes to give."

The Shepherds were watching their flocks on this night,
And saw in the heavens an unearthly light.

The Angels assured them, they'd nothing to fear,
It's Christmas they said, the Saviour is here!

They hastened to find Him, and stood at the door,
Till Mary invited them in to adore.

He was swaddled in bands from His head to His feet,
Ne'er did the Shepherds see a baby so sweet!

He spoke not a word, but the shepherds all knew,
He was telling them secrets and blessing them too;

Then softly they left Him, The Babe in the hay,
And rejoiced with great joy on that first Christmas Day.

Mary heard them exclaim as they walked up the hill,
"Glory to God in the Highest, Peace to men of good will!"

The SPS decided that my royal personage needed royal robes. In the past I wore the humble green of the ranch "Olympic Hay Eating Team". Now while I may be part of that team I am the Captain, a royal captain at that. I now have royal burgundy and ivory robes. The little princess of the herd wears a smaller version of the same royal robes.

The things I do for the SPS

Here I am Sir Darby the reluctant Elf.
I am not sure what the SPS was thinking yesterday, but clearly she was short some of her mental faculties. She appeared at my domicile with two very silly hats. She made the rounds of the entire herd and had each equine wear both of the hats. Some equines were better about it than others.
I did not mind the hat she said was an Elf hat, although it did resemble the hat worn by a court jester who once performed at my royal housing. I did however draw the line at the hat that had blinking lights, wiggled around on its own, and sang the same Christmas song over and over.
I indulge the SPS because she brings me hot mush in the evenings as an aperitif before I get my hay, that is a lovely treat.
Have a grand holiday season!

In the news

My royal personage was featured in the local paper this week.
I am a bit disturbed that I appear to be muddy in the photo, I am not I was a bit wet from the snow. I believe that the paper's readership will increase if they featured me more often.
I have also requested that the PSP purchase a new blanket for me. I find it intolerable that I must wear the same green blanket that all the peasant horses wear. I need special royal robes....
